Poi photograpy (fire spinning)

Messing around at a friends party this weekend, and got the chance to photograph Poi (fire spinning).
I hadn’t given it much thought, and it was quite late on in the party.. so I had already become a little intoxicated, so please forgive my first attempts!
I had my Sigma 10-20mm on my 40D with a Speedlite 430ex on the top, and due to brain freeze I took it off as I couldn’t work out how to put it on 2nd curtain, and as I have used 2nd curtain with the inbuilt flash many times I quickly switched to that. I tried a few different settings on manual, I think I ended up with varying exposure lengths ranging from a 40th sec to almost 1 second, from f8 to f11 or something like that. I had the ISO up pretty high, I think 800 and 1000, with flash set at normal power on 2nd curtain as well as the lens on manual focus roughly where I thought they were standing… I wished I had been a little more sober as I would have got many more shots and a few more different effects, still – rather I had been there with my camera than not at all!
Anyway, here are some of the shots, I certainly aim to get a few more at the next opportunity!
Anyway, I found this to be great fun to photograph, and even more fun to do… and it seems a pair of poi are now in the post on the way to my house…. I’m so weak, and such a child!!
Regards,
Chris
