A few of my photographs showing movement in Hong Kong
Posted on March 1, 2010 | 4 Comments
Just a quick post of some of my favourite ‘movement’ photographs of Hong Kong. In such a fast moving city like this, it seemed the right thing to do to try and show movement within some of my images. This is just a few select photos from my full album that can be found here: Stock Photography Photography of Hong Kong – 2010

Do you use a tripod and slow shutter speed to get these shots? The fourth shot is clever in that the moving object (the bicycle) appears static whilst the static elements of the shot (the street) are moving. How is this achieved? By moving/panning the camera?

The first 2 photo’s are on a tripod – top photo about 1 or 2 seconds, second photo I think around 10 or 20 seconds…
Shots 3 and 4 are all hand held and at relatively low speed shutter speeds, about 1/20th or 1/30th
The 4th shot is me twisting my body and panning round as the subject passed by, it’s a wide lens so everything is exaggerated too..
Hope that helps!

It must take a lot of trial and error to get the correct panning speed which allows for the subject to remain in focus.

Certainly does, I have thousands of missed shots like that!
